At first it was planned at the Melkweg venue, but due to a big ticket demand they put the concert in the Heineken Music Hall, where 5,000 fans could see the show. It was not sold out and that was fine. The band is quite unknown to some people. Here's my story... I went to Amsterdam by train to see Coldplay play for the first time. I had bought the album Parachutes because I just loved the song yellow and became interested in their music. And do not know a lot about this band.

Instead of a support act they showed a film that had a few familiar faces in it like U2's Bono and REM's Micheal Stipe. The stage was a bit high so I had to stretch my neck a bit.

Than it was Coldplay's turn. They set off with an unknown tune to me that could be from the upcomming album. The singers disarming presence and his voice are a wellcome change.

The crowd was happy singing along and Chris was like stunned with the enthusiasm they sparked. I liked the unknown songs as well, and am curious to find out how the new CD will sound. The singer said that they were happy to be in Holland because it was a long time ago (the Lowlands festival i believe).

With 'Everything's not lost', Chris changed two lines and commented on Holland's national soccer team not playing on the World Championship this year. The crowd reacted with a big noise, we all though that was funny. The start of 'Trouble' was a hilarious start. Chris played the well known piano theme and everyone went wild. He said something like, "This is a great effect, can we do it one more time?" and started the song again and we all sang along loud and Chris was quite taken by this if I am not wrong.

The honest and simple straightforward lyrics with the slight sad but hopeful melodic songs, do not leave my head for a while. Yellow was sung for a big part by the crowd as Chris turned the mike stand towards the audience. Lovely to hear. The band was feeling quite good as they threw bottles with water, plectrums and towels into the crowd.

Chris told the crowd the song 'See you soon' was about the girl he met when he was in France when he was 13 years old, on holiday. She was Dutch. Lovely tune that was about sweet memory's of an old love. "I was the worlds worst kisser", he confessed.

The end of the show could have been a bit more convincing, as lots of people waited for the band to come back for some more songs. But that's the way they are I think. I left with a heart filled with great music and a new sense of emotion. Wanna see them again.

Review by Maggie (Margreet) Piek

I remember myself saying several times to my friends that whenever Coldplay would come and do a show here in Holland I want to be a part of it.

So the girls remembered and gave me a ticket for my birthday. It could not have been a better gift. I loved Parachutes right from the start and to see the band play live was a great thing. Another band I can get very excited about next to LIVE. By the way the drummer of LIVE is a huge fan of Coldplay..just so you know...

We were surprised to see that at about 4 o'clock there was still nobody sitting in front of the doors. We first had a good diner and at about half past 7 we went in and still had a spot second row. So that wasn't so bad at all.

I have to say that I am very bad in remembering set lists, I am sorry. I remember that we stood there for about half an hour waiting for the boys to come on stage. They played some video before the show started. You could feel the excitement growing. People wanted the band to start playing and not see the video anymore.

Then at around 9 pm the show started. They started with Politik a song from A rush of blood to the head. I remembered this later on when I heard it on the listening party on the website. I was really surprised by Chris his energy because I remembered him from some MTV broadcasting and the idea I had in my head wasn't what I saw. Anyway…what was cool was that one of my friends standing next to me said..wow I didn't know he was such a cutie…get that Chris haha. I agreed with that by the way.

I was standing second row and had a good view of the stage. Chris was so full of energy it was amazing. It was fun to look at too. I was curious how his voice would sound live and I can only say that he has a wonderful voice. When they started playing Yellow we were all singing along and he turned his microphone to the stage. He was amazed by how well we knew the lyrics and he put that great smile upon his face. We dutchies know how to do it..I know that from experience. There is a short movie of that moment as well.

What I liked were the small video cameras they had on stage so you could see all 4 of them on screens at the back of the stage. Especially since Chris his piano was standing sideways on the stage it was cool to see his face when he played it. And he can pull a funny face or two..wow. I feel that he puts his whole in the songs he sings. That's the impression he has on me.

The screens

I did not have a good view on Jon and Will but they really are good in what they do, that goes for Guy as well. He is kind of static on stage..even his face does not show anything..I must say that Will (being a guitarplayer at first) plays his drums well.

At one point before starting Don't panic, he looked into the audience, I never really found out who he addressed to but he looked into our direction.. it' s so hard to say. But he said something like the girl with the brown hair, I don't know your name, and than he said something like this one is for you. I will not know if it was addressed to me or not it was hard to say. It will only stay a guess. I probably am not the only girl who thinks this..

Before he started to sing I'll see you soon he told the audience a little story about his first girlfriend being Dutch and that her name was Jasperina. I heard that song for the first time and I think it's very sweet. They played my favs from Parachutes, being Yellow and Shiver. That's where we looked at each other saying..wow he is very energetic on stage, running around with his guitar and all. Short movie of that as well.

Another song I did not remember until the listening party of the new CD was the Scientist. I was a bit mad about that because I really loved that song. I do remember Chris saying what the song was called but I don't know one way or the other it impresses me that much I forget later on ..or it's the age. Anyway I think that song is going to be one of my favorites of the new CD.

When Chris started Trouble the whole of the Heineken Music Hall started to sing along. He was so amazed by it that he asked us if he could start it again so who could here the audience again because they did not have a big hit like Trouble before and they really loved the reaction of the crowd. Again we dutchies now how to play it..;-)

At one point during Everything's not lost Chris started to sing ad than sort of said/sang things about our national team not making it to the football championships and than singing Everything's not lost and than again singing/saying but it is better that way than to get kicked out like “our team”. The whole crowd reacted really well on that one. And at the end we all sang along again. We all agree he is very funny.

There was one encore, which ended with Everything's not lost. I have to keep that in mind for the next time. I will ask for the setlist after the show ..haha…All I know was that it ended too soon. I can listen to them all night long. In fact when the show was over, we all looked at each other (all being hardcore LIVE fans) and said: “This was definitely better than the last 2 LIVE concerts we saw” and you all have to know that we never thought we would say that to each other...

Maybe it's funny to say that after the show one of my friends talked to a colleague of hers and he knows us as those absolutely hardcore LIVE fans and when we said: Ed Kowalczyk is out, Chris Martin is in, he looked at us like..you girls are nuts. We were having some fun about it. Don't get me wrong LIVE is still my band but I can really say that Coldplay is doing their best to come close…I just bought A rush of blood to the head and I already love it.

I can't wait till November 5th for the next show and see the songs from that album performed. I'll promise another review by than! And this time front row and I will bring my own camera again.

One thing I wonder though, does he have a problem with his right hand/wrist? Because of that thing he is wearing.

Enjoy!
