Review
I bought 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' in september 2002 and, I have to admit, I never really listened to it all the way through because I wasn't that big of a fan. I was, however, really into Idlewild, so when i found out that they were supporting Coldplay i took the oppurtunity to go and see them.
I went with two of my friends and I guess you could say we were a little excited... we left 2 hours in advance in the hope of being able to get to the very front of the theatre. We were so ealry we even heard the bands rehearsing! We stood in the pouring rain for over an hour until we were finally let into the theatre - at this point we legged it and we managed to push our way right to the front. Although I moaned non stop about being cold and wet the wait was completely worth it; I got to see Roddy Woomble up close which was just fantastic. Idlewild were brilliant live and the french crowd certainly took to them and cheered after every song.
Even so, they were no match for the performance that Chris, Jon, Will and Guy gave. It was faultless and the band members, in particular Chris, were true gentleman making attempts to speak in french for the audience and at some points even singing parts of songs in french. It was nice to see that they were so normal and friendly.
Chris gave a truly energetic perfomance - the sweat poured off him as he bashed away on his piano. That really made it feel genunine, you could see he enjoyed what he was doing. Jon is an amazing guitarist - he's so talented. Will has a beautiful voice - at one point i could hear someone singing but Chris was no where near the microphone. When i looked round i saw that it was Will and I couldn't believe it. Guy comes across as quite shy but he was always looking into the crowd and he is an incredible bassist. The stage layout was ingenious - I really liked the idea of the four screens in the background, one for each of them.
Since the concert I haven't stopped listening to 'A rush of blood to the head'. It's such a varied album with so many emotions that i can relate to. The songs have moved me and I even cried at 'The scientist'.I really can't get enough of Coldplay and I will definitely go to another live concert- the performance was outstanding.
