Reviews
This was the first time I had seen Coldplay and I thought they put on a great show. I knew the show would be brief at 90 minutes or so, and tempered my expectations accordingly.
Notables:
It was tough to understand what Chris was saying between songs (which is fine with me since I didn't have to listen to him bitch and moan about fair trade and President Bush).
Chris tried to get the crowd to sing along with Everything's Not Lost, but it didn't come off very well. Coldplay played a song I never heard before. It was tough to distinguish, but the chorus had something about an upside down world in it.
Chris had to get down on his knees and plead with the crowd to stand for Yellow. In the crowd's defense, the UIC Pavilion is an old crappy building whose rafters hang down too low. Half of the balcony is obstructed view and I couldn't see a thing if I stood up. The crowd did do admirably singing along on this song.
The Scientist followed Yellow and the crowd sang every word along with Chris. Good stuff. Chris broke into an impromptu version of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" after The Scientist before leaving the stage. The crowd started clapping in rhythm at the end of Clocks. Chris played the ending in time with the clapping. The clapping got faster and faster until Chris was really pounding the keys at the end of this song.
The best crowd reaction of the night was for In My Place. Chris asked that all of the house lights be turned on for Amsterdam.
Songs that came off really well in concert: Politik, God Put a Smile Upon My Face, Daylight, Trouble, One I Love, Yellow, The Scientist, Clocks, In My Place
