Reviews
There are only a handful of gigs that one can attend and remember practically every moment of, and it's safe to say that this "secret" Coldplay show at the Troubadour is one of them. As a warm up for their KCRW Sounds Eclectic gig tonight at the Universal Amphitheatre, the band managed to leave kids and industry in awe of their ability as 4 intrinsically interwoven musicians/friends to deliver one fluid and massive hour-long wall of sound so well. It was like the first time seeing U2 in a stadium with the crowd cheering and singing along, but in an intimate reach-out-and-touch-me vacuum with 400 other equally lucky people.
Chris Martin (now donning hair that could the beginning of a return to his 2001 brit-fro) arrived on stage with fellow band mates wearing massive grins when greeting the audience. Whether they were relieved that people were still this enthusiastic to see them after their 2 or more year hiatus, or just excited to finally get out of the studio and back on a stage - their energy was evident when playing through a set chock full of hits and impressive new songs from their upcoming X&Y album. The set included: Square One, White Shadows and What If, and also stellar versions of Clocks, Politik, Sparks, The Scientist and an ever fresh rendition of hit single Yellow...
The experience was truly humbling, one of those shows that reaffirms the reasons why people live, love and breathe music.
