Reviews
As part of our holiday, my girlfriend and me went to see Coldplay at the Moon and Stars festival at the Piazza Grande, Locarno, Switzerland. We both went to Crystal Palace at their first gig there and wanted a repetición. The atmosphere was fantastic, more intime because this was a piazza gig which made things quite packed. Richard Ashcroft came on stage, doing an ok performance, wearing his white 'Rich' jersey and goggles, looking a bit pathetic but made the crowd more or less going.
I am not a huge fan, and found it dragging on a bit too long, listening to him singing 8-9 quite similar songs was a bit too much for me. His bitter sweet one made things going though, and after thanking everyone, praising the birds on their way from Africa (or on their way to) he left us to wait for the 4 cold players.
They've had better nights before, I am not lying if I say they were struggling a bit. The songs from Parachutes and A Rush of Blood made the crowd going, but I think they struggeled more with the new ones. I love the whole X&Y album and personally I enjoyed it very much, but most people didn't let things go which makes it more difficult for the guys on stage. White Shadows and Fix You went straight home though, as well as Speed of Sound. No big surprises there. Chris though seemed more interested in talking to the lucky people on the balconies surrounding the piazza, and he managed to forget the lyrics a couple of times.
Even during The Scientist he managed to mess up a few things, swapping lines in the text and getting out of rhythm a couple of times - at which point Will Champion glanced at him with that "what the hell are you doing" look. Swallowed in the Sea made Locarno the most awesome place to be though, words running around the piazza and we all got quite emotional in the clear and warm swiss-italian twilight.
