Hi guys - I just got home from an amazing concert! And yeah, that was the setlist! ^ With Speed Of Sound and Will singing Till Kingdom Come. Unfurtunatly not a big change in the setlist. They didn't do Trouble though! Instead they played a 'herning song'. Pretty weird as my 10-year-old sister got a setlist which says Trouble as first song at the C-stage. But they didn't.
Will write a review tomorrow as I'm soooooo tired after queueing almost all day + school tomorrow (). Me and my family got 1., 2. and 3. row btw, and I met Julie (ClocksInMyPlace)!! It has been such a great day.
Thank you, Coldplay, for yet another brilliant concert!
Allright guys, I suppose it's time for a review now..
We (my family and I) arrived at the venue at 11.15 am., were already nine people were queueing (including Valypan). At 13.30 my father and I went looking for something to eat, as the soundcheck startet. At the other side of the venue we found a place where we could look over the fence and we saw Guy, Jonny and Will! They were quite far away but we kept waving and finally Will waved back to us. On this other side of the venue I also met Julie (ClocksInMyPlace) and her brother which I had been so excited about! She's such a sweet girl - she gave me a Coldplay bracelet as an early birthday present. (Like the one she once had a picture of in her atvatar!) Aww - thanks again! Well.. Then untill 18.00 we were just queueing........
We made it to the front row! The support acts (Moi Caprice and White Lies) were both very good.
Before the concert when they were fixing the last things before Coldplay, Miller was so close to us! I shouted his name for like 10 times, but unfortunatly he didn't hear. And then - about 21.15 - it happened. They guys came on stage! WE WENT CRAZYYYYY. But well, what can I say about the concert? It was almost an exact copy of all other concerts. Exept from the fact that they played Till Kingdom Come and SOS. Chris wasn't all fit for fight, imo. He looked tired and even though he smiled alot, the expression on his face was quite cold. But that didn't hold him back from running and jumping as usual . He dedicated the last part of Yellow to Jonny which was so sweet but yeah, he does that at every concert, right? At the end of the gig, Chris thanked White Lies, "The band before White Lies" (he couldn't remember their name ) and their fifth member, Phil. So, exept from the fact that there weren't big changes in the setlist and Chris wasn't quite allright, it was such a great concert!! Thanks again, again, again and again guys .
Right after the concert my 10-year-old sister was handed a setlist from one of the security people. He must have seen that little girl standing front row singing along with all the songs . Then my family and Julie walked around the venue looking for some place for them to come out to get a picture and autograph, but unfortunately we had to give up.
One of my best friends who also attented the concert, called my afterwards and told me he had seen me on the big screen which I found pretty cool. haha.

well the only suprise then is till kingdom come... could have chosen a better one i think. at least trouble seems to be played at the forthcoming gigs. but instead of green eyes which i also haven't heard live before. if the setlist posted above is going to be the final setlist for the european tour, than we have 2 exchanges (green eyes -> trouble, death will never... -> till kingdom come) and just one added song which has already been played on every concert last year. so the "new" setlist is disappointing for me, except for trouble. i hoped for more songs i haven't heard live before, e.g. a rush of blood to the head, amsterdam, sparks, prospekt's march, shiver, warning sign, green eyes. they could easily vary some of those songs during their stadium shows. now i can't really understand all their talk about a longer setlist and rehearsing some older songs...

Fantastic concert! After a long struggle and considerable muscle pain I endured hrs of waiting to then get to the front row, but what with the yellow balloons , the psychedelia of Speed of Sound and the confetti of Lovers in Japan, it was DEFINITELY all worth it! What a magical night! Only by seeing Coldplay live, can you really apppreciate the meticulous detail they put in everything they do. It was a true delightful VLV package, topped by the LRLR cd given out at the exit. A little gem was also hearing Will singing Til Kingdom Come: totally sweet and also hearing my beloved Green Eyes. They moved around a lot and played two sets of songs out there in the crowd. Here is my little contribution to the video with a few seconds of The Hardest Part, which they played on another stage. A note: The butterfly confetti were fluorescent. I don´t know if they are in all other VLV concerts, as this is my first, but I thought it was worth mentioning, just in case They were fantastic!
[valypan]
OMG. That's all i can say. Being at a Coldplay concert is so amazing I could stay there forever. (Sorry if this doesn't really fit in but I HAD to mention it SOMEWHERE)
[GreenEyesDK]
I'm finally back on my little island from my 1st Coldplay show. The show was fantastic!!!! Fucking great night! I have never screamed, jumped and sung along that much! I was in 2nd row. If you haven't read my tweets you can find them here I've been desperate to come back on here as I need someone who understands to quote Til Kingdom Come since I've had watery eyes like 1000 times today when thinking about that it's over.
I will write detailed review. I took some photos but they were all blurry. Stupid camera phone. The videos turned out a lot better actually (though my focus is really bad and I sometimes accidentally block the microphone ). I will post that too.
Sunday the 16th of August 2009, Herning, Denmark: (Attention! If you do not want to read about before the show (which includes soundcheck), then skip part 1 and start from part 2 [coming later]) I arrived at Messecenter Herning a bit over 11 am. I was going to see Coldplay live for the first time in the MCH Outdoor Arena. As I sat in the car with my family while we drove past a big sign with the VIVA logo and “COLDPLAY” ([2] one) I could feel the little excitement coming to me. As you can see in the puppet pictures from Herning posted on Coldplay.com there were both Danish and British flags on poles around the area, which I think was a nice gesture. My brother and I had trouble finding out where to line up, which caused that I was running back and forth to find the place. It said entrance E on our tickets and after some time we realized that we had to wait where it said E, F and G. By then there were two men before us in the queue. It was okay. Luckily they were really nice and talkative. I was supposed to wait in line with Roos and her family, but it turned out that they had entrance B unfortunately. To my relief, my brother wanted to wait with me for all the hours, just for me. We both had inner scene tickets. At around noon things started to happen; Coldplay did their soundcheck already! We heard of Life in Technicolor, Violet Hill and bits of Lovers in Japan but mostly Speed of Sound which all in all got played about 4 times (both parts and full song). When I stood at a certain place I could see Jonny! Suddenly I saw a man with a girl around my age on his shoulders and they were talking in a language I don’t speak . I was wondering if that could have been Roos (RoosAnne), so I texted her to ask and we met each other. I had been looking forward to that and to give her an early birthday present (a Coldplay bracelet I made for her). The others found a table we could stand on and see the soundcheck from! Speed of Sound means a lot to me, because it was the song that got me to know Coldplay (I was euphoric the first times I heard it), so I felt really excited, happy and had butterflies in my stomach when hearing it at the soundcheck. I hoped and believed that they would play it at the concert. I could only see Will, Guy and Jonny and I couldn’t really hear Chris much, only a few times. They went out on the ramp to play some of GPASUYF and Talk. It felt surreal that they were actually standing there in front of me to see, but it made me very happy. We waved at them. At some point I calmly waved at Jonny with no expectations and guess what?! Jonny waved back at me!! That made me really happy. Soon after soundcheck other fans joined in the line. One girl had been a fan since 2000 and seen them several times! There were lots of hours of waiting on the program. We did a smart number system a man arranged to prevent late coming people to skip the queue. I had a good time, people were nice and time went by fastly for me. Right before 6 pm when the gates were scheduled to open I stood nervously with my face towards them with my brother. My heart was beating really fast. I was prepared for the run. Gates opened and I ran as good as I could to get my ticket checked (with security trying to stop us from running and a brother getting stuck in line) and to our spot at the field. My brother joined me soon afterwards. Second row in the centre! That would be almost right in front of Chris as I dreamed of! Roos and her family were a few meters to the right and I could wave at her. The time waiting for Coldplay felt long – well definitely for my knees. The support bands did their job and afterwards a lot of music was played while Coldplay’s roadies were all over the stage. I saw a couple of roadies I “know” (Hoppy and Matt or Bash - who is who?) and tour manager Franksy. Miller put a camera up right in front of us to film the crowd. I waved at him, but he saw nothing, haha. There were a lot of people (it is now known that the audience contained 37.500 people) which also was a first time experience for me. It did not frighten me though, because I had space enough to jump around and move my arms, so no claustrophobia for me. A Jay Z song got played and I knew it was getting close… I could feel the excitement in my whole body. A Coldplay roadie danced to the Jay Z song on one of the two ramps. I have seen him in videos, but he was better than I expected. The Blue Danube was played and I knew beforehand that we were going to clap at the right times to it. The crowd was lively and up for it and the ambiance was great. The Blue Danube ended, the crowd cheered and in a moment it was going to happen…
[…to be continued]
[Clocks In My Place]
Fantastic performance by Coldplay in Herning, but Chris Martin’s voice sounded a bit metallic at times imo. He was full of energy and did not spare his voice or himself, but ran from one side of the stage to the other and used the ramps a lot. I was standing close to the ramp on Jonny’s side, and in one of the pictures taken (I think it was taken by the Anchorman and posted on coldplay.com) you can see me standing close to the stage very close to the rail beside the ramp on Jonny’s side wearing a red wind breaker / wind cheater and beige trousers. I think that Chris’ hair was reduced by a few centimetres which is fine with me as I quite like him with curly hair. One of the highlights for me is the end of “Viva la Vida” where Chris lies down for a good minute and then rolls backwards to get up. He did that on “my” ramp 3 metres from where I was standing – one from the Danish crew was standing between the ramp and the rail, partly blocking my view! I thought, “Oh, no”, but was able to see Chris rolling backwards in order to get up. Another highlight for me was Jonny & Chris on the ramp at the end of “In My Place” where Chris lies down and Jonny helps him to get up. The audience including me was active singing the choruses of “Fix You” and “Viva la Vida” – it was very nice indeed. I was very pleased to hear “Speed of Sound” accompanied by a wonderful journey through the universe on the big screen. It was quite amazing. Will was singing “Till Kingdom Comes”, and I particularly loved the bit where Chris and Will are singing a verse together – I really like the sound of their voices combined. The guitar technician had a very busy evening – I think that Jonny used all the guitars available to him during the 2 hours! The guitar technician also had to bring him another guitar in the middle of songs – at least 3 times!! Just before the encore, immediately before the bow taken by Coldplay, each Coldplay member went to the ramps alone and clapped and smiled. The Danish newspapers were generally positive in their reviews of the concert giving 4* out of 6 possible.
The Coldplay performance was the highlight of my trip to Herning. I had a good trip to Herning by train, but lost the spectacles I use for reading, but I hope to get them back. I contacted the Danish State Railways and the concert venue, but my spectacles have not yet been found. I was about to have new spectacles anyway, because my sight has deteriorated, but the expensive titanium frame could have been used again! On my way from Herning to Copenhagen by train I had a problem with my seat reservation. I had bought a return ticket and seat reservations from Copenhagen to Herning and from Herning to Copenhagen. But the date on both seat reservation tickets said 16 August. I asked at the place where I bought the ticket and the person controlling the ticket in the train if that might constitute any problem. No, was the answer. But on my way back a lady was sitting in “my” seat having a seat reservation with the date 17 August on it. So I was told by the person controlling the ticket in the train to move around, if there was a seat available. That would not be the case after Odense situated halfway between Herning and Copenhagen. So I got off the train and had a free ticket from Odense to Copenhagen by a train arriving in Copenhagen 4 minutes later than the train I was originally on. So alright. During the opening acts on 16 August I found out that my mobile phone was switched off, and I was told to enter the PIN code. Never switching off the telephone, I could not remember the pin code (had only used it once 5 or 6 months earlier). I had been in contact with RoosAnne via text messages and would have sent her a SMS asking her where she was standing so I could meet her to say “hello”. I understand from her very good report that she was standing not so far away from where I was standing so I really would have liked to say “hallo”. On my train home from Copenhagen there were signal problems on the railway meaning that the train would eventually arrive with a delay of 30 minutes. But despite all this, I have not regretted going to the Coldplay concert, and I am able to smile at what happened. VIVA LA VIDA!

Hello everyone, I'm totally new to this board, just discovered it yesterday through my YouTube statistics (you linked to one of my videos - Life in Technicolor ii HD)
To be honest, if we go back a year or so, I wasn’t really a Coldplay fan. I’d only heard their singles like Clocks, and I liked it, but nothing more than that. Then Viva La Vida was released, and I thought, well what a cool cover, I have to have that on my shelf. Then I gave the disc a spin… and I was sold.
Well anyway, as you might have guessed, I attended this concert, and what a show. It was probably one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had at a concert, the whole thing was just breathtaking. The light/lasers, the giant stage with the impressive LED screen, all the butterflies and the yellow balloons. It really just seemed like the perfect show.
Oh, and I was totally surprised when Will started singing Till Kingdom Come, I had no idea he could sing like that. Really really cool!
If they ever visits Denmark again, I will totally be there

It was a very enthusiastic Coldplay, who last night took to the stage at the Outdoor Arena at the Exhibition Center Herning. That concert was the first stop on the band's upcoming European tour.
For at sætte gang i publikums blodomløb før hovednavnet skulle på scenen, optrådte det danske indie-band Moi Caprice samt den britiske gruppe White Lies. To stimulate the audience's blood flow before the main concert was at the scene, appeared the Danish indie band Moi Caprice and the British group White Lies.
Moi Caprice Moi Caprice
While people still were about to present itself to their respective seats on the arena, went Moi Caprice on stage. Bandet spillede deres største hits, såsom The Art of Kissing Properly, My girl You Blush samt Drama Queen. Alle energiske sange, The band played their biggest hits including The Art of Kissing Properly, My Girl You Blush and Drama Queen. All energetic songs men på trods heraf, formåede Moi Caprice aldrig helt at rive publikum med, selvom bandet forekom meget veloplagte og beærede over at få lov at opvarme for selveste Coldplay. but despite this, Moi Caprice never managed to completely tear audience, although the band seemed very playful and honored to be allowed to warm himself for Coldplay. Playful audience was not quite at that stage, perhaps because of the strong winds, also up to several times was by taking the front man Michael Miller's large black hat with them in turn.
As always, Michael Moller expressed his lovely feminine through dance movements, but as something new built himself very politely and rooms on the scene. Maybe because he knew it was something other than klientiel usage significantly, which was turned up this evening. The whole band was dressed in black and other dark colors (for which they have previously stated: We are dressed in black, until the emergence of a darker color up) but unfortunately was also black backdrop. It meant that the band almost ran into one with the black carpet so that the audience had to focus on the big screen to follow what was happening on stage. All in all, gave Moi Caprice, a good half-hour concert, in spite of a very stagnant audience.
White Lies White Lies
White Lies was next on the program, and now the arena spectators apparently by being heat in the joints. I al fald blev der klappet gevaldigt med på hits som To Lose My Life og Farewell to the Fairground , der begge har været spillet flittigt på P3. In any event, was applauded tremendously with the hits To Lose My Life and Farewell to the Fairground, which both have been played frequently at P3. Where Moi Caprice concert was characterized by a very stagnant audience, so was the concert with White Lies characterized by a very stagnant band - none of the band members moved largely through the entire concert, which was a shame. Lead singer Harry McVeigh's voice appeared very clean and solid, but there may however be called into question by his guitarist mission capabilities, as his guitar playing sounded pivfalsk repeatedly. The audience got underway a taste of something still unknown, namely a B-side in the form of the song T axidermy.
Coldplay Coldplay
Then it was finally time for tonight's long-awaited headlining, Coldplay, would take the stage. As an introduction had the audience served Strauss' An der schönen blauen Donau, while that on large screen was shown a satellite map of the world where the exhibition grounds in Herning was added as a destination. It worked incredibly well, perhaps because it gave the audience a feeling that the band actually knew where in the world they found themselves. Since the satellite finally zoomed in to the arena where we all stood, there was great jubilation to track.
The concert began with the song Life in Technicolor by Coldplay latest album, followed by the hit Violet Hill. Then bade frontman Chris Martin welcomed the audience by saying "Good evening all together" at a very gebrokkent Danish, and thanked for the strong turnout despite the cold and wind . Herefter fik tilskuerene glæden af at høre storhittet In My Place, hvor Chris Martin meget energisk løb frem og tilbage på den kæmpe scene, hvorpå der var tilføjet to podier, der stak ud blandt publikum. Then spectators had the pleasure of hearing big hit "In My Place, where Chris Martin very energetic ran back and forth on the fight scene, which had added two podiums, which stuck out in the audience. Den mand har åbenbart en fremragende kondi, da der ikke var den mindste forpustelse at spore i hans vokal, på trods af, at han altså fik løbet sig noget af en tur. The man clearly has an excellent fitness, as there was the slightest breath to track his vocals, in spite of the fact that he made the course somewhat of a turn. Begrejstringen – hos publikum såvel som bandet – var stadigt stigende, især da det efterfølgende nummer bestod af endnu et megahit, nemlig Y ellow fra bandets debutskive: Parachutes. Her var hele scenen oplyst i et gult skær alt imens der rullede store gule balloner Begrejstringen - with the audience as well as the band - was steadily increasing, especially since the subsequent number consisted of another megahit, namely Y ellow from the band's debut disc: Parachutes. Here was the whole scene disclosed in a yellow glow all while having rolled big yellow balloons henover publikum . Især under Yellow gik der stadionrock i stemningen, da Chris Martin til slut bad publikum synge sangen for ham, mens han selv tog sig en slapper på et af podierne. over the audience. Especially the yellow went to stadium rock into the atmosphere when Chris Martin finally asked the audience to sing the song for him while he took a slapper at the podium.
Herefter faldt pulsen en kende, idet de mere stille og mindre kendte sange indfandt sig, eksempelvis London Cemetaries og 42, for derefter at få publikum helt op at ringe igen med de prægtige numre Fix You og Speed of Sound Then fell a pulse known as the quieter and lesser known songs materialize, such as London Cemetaries and 42, then to get the audience up to ring again with the gorgeous numbers Fix You and Speed of Sound fra X & Y- albummet. from X & Y album. During the latter showed a very velpassende video on big screen, now filled the entire backdrop. It led the audience away from the arena and out into space with a lot of laser beams, stars and large planets. Then the band disappeared from the scene, while the spotlight moved right down the other end of the arena to present among other Till Kingdom Come and Green Eyes. Before the band again turned its nose against the big scene, entered the hit Michael Jackson: Billie Jean, which caused excitement in the audience, but not so much with myself, because the quality of the track was not in the top. Perhaps because the only instruments that were brought to the small podium consisted of a couple of guitars, but also because of the sound down behind was significantly impaired compared with the otherwise excellent soundstage, Outdoor Arena presented for days. It might have been spotting joy that thrilled the audience. Generally it is not working optimally, the band marched right down the other end of the arena, and I wonder if those who had paid on the good side of £ 600 on their inner arena tickets, felt the same way.
To Death and All His Friends. Since the band again arrived on the big stage entered the Lovers in Japan "from their newest album, where the audience was enriched with confetti shaped like butterflies in all sorts of colors, so much sparked the mood to go before the band thanked the two Death and All His Friends.
We only have two more songs – the n you can go have fun”. Before the band played their encores, which among other things consisted of The Scientist, Chris Martin assured the audience that he soon released them, with the words: "We only have two more songs - the n you can go have fun." Based on audience reactions to judge had "fun" now, been no shortage of goods through this concert.
Chris Martin concluded by thanking the two heating bands, but unfortunately Moi Caprice not sung himself so deep into Martin's heart that he could remember what they called. Han takkede dem nemlig med ordene ” Thanks to White Lies and to…the band before them”. He thanked them for the words "Thanks to White Lies and two ... the band before them."
All in all an excellent experience in Herning, offering everything a stadium concert should provide in the form of balloons, fireworks, sing-along and confetti. Coldplay selv havde eftersigende også en fortræffelig oplevelse, da de efter koncerten opdaterede deres Twitter-status med ordene: “Very much a first night no doubt, but the vibe of THAT many people & the huge new production is just beyond belief”. Coldplay had reportedly also an excellent experience, because after the concert update their Twitter status with the words: "Very much a first night no doubt, but the vibe of that many people & the huge new production is just beyond belief."
Note: It turns out that Johnny from Candy is big Coldplay fan. At least he was this evening attended the grandstand A in Herning.

Coldplay in the Danish town "Herning" - What a show !!
Article by Lasse Skytt
4*/6*
Herning's high ambitions to host the big events pull well together with Chris Martin's belief that Coldplay is the world's greatest rock band. Almost 40,000 people witnessed that.
Ambitious Herning and Coldplay were a perfect match
Strauss’ ” the Danube Waltz” was played when Coldplay entered the huge stage around 21 o’clock on Sunday, 16 August 2009. Two hours later the concert area in Herning bore witness to a very pompous and magnificent event: Machines emitting confetti, machines emitting smoke, yellow balloons and fireworks were scattered all over the place. After only 15 minutes’ concert we had already heard a handful of the very best songs written since year 2000, and no doubt about that: Coldplay’s music will continue to be an indisputable part of the sound track of the decade ending in a few months’ time. Fortunately the band members are also capable of presenting the pop melodies in extravagant and fantastic “live” versions. Chris Martin was full of energy, empathy and joy. And as always the other band members demonstrated an enviable co-operation. Unfortunately the curly frontman was sometimes so short of breath after having run from one end of the stage to the other that several songs simply had to be shortened.
More Changes Needed Compared with Coldplay’s concert at this year’s Roskilde Festival, the setlist was almost the same, and there were not many elements of surprise: We had particularly heard the acoustic tribute to Michael Jackson before. In addition to that, it was a bit frustrating to wait for the many changes of scenery – the intensity fell a bit towards the end of the concert. The highlights, however, overrode all that – the colourful version of "Lovers In Japan" was quite unique and so was Chris Martin’s beautiful version of "The Scientist". All in all Herning and Coldplay were a perfect match. They can be very proud of each other.

HOCUS-POCUS OF FIRST CLASS
by Palle Heering Nielsen
Coldplay delivered a fantastic and surprising show, but there were sound problems! English Coldplay gave a fantastic, almost 2-hour-long performance as their European outdoor tour started in front of about 37,000 people at the MCH Outdoor Arena in Herning. It was a first-class show with laser lights, fireworks, yellow huge balloons, flying butterflies made of paper and other special effects making the concert more than just musical entertainment.
Lead singer Chris Martin proved that his vocal chords had recovered after his problems in the USA last week when the band had to cancel a show in Tampa, Florida. Chris Martin was cheerful and attentive. He spoke to the audience as if he knew everyone, and he thanked the audience several times for "having defied the cold and wind" in order to hear Coldplay instead of staying at home to watch television.
The band showed that they had great reserves of energy, and there were several surprises at the concert. Some time during the concert the four musicians "disappeared" and reappeared far back at the concert venue where they played a couple of acoustic songs for those who had been far back in the line for the front rows. The audience heard, among other songs, a tribute to the late Michael Jackson as the foursome played their version of Billie Jean - but without moonwalking.
But Coldplay could walk on water - almost. The only disadvantage of the concert was the sound problems. Several of the well-known riffs and solos disappeared because the instruments were not loud enough, and rumours had it that the sound problems were worse at the back, maybe due to the strong wind as was the case at the Bruce Springsteen concert on 8 July 2009.
It was a pity because all the other details were of really high class. And when the audience left the venue, they received a free CD with live recordings off the Viva La Vida tour to make a successful evening in Herning even better.

The always cheerful Chris Martin
Coldplay spread warmth in windy Herning
Review made by Peter Albrechtsen
(4*/6*)
Once there was a noble knight named Chris Martin. The curly-headed singer travelled about the entire country in order to spread joy and good vibrations. Everyone loved him, and he loved everyone. Yesterday Chris Martin arrived in Herning together with the three other Coldplay superstars, and also here love was in the air. The like-able soul is one of the few people on earth capable of smiling in spite of strong wind blowing into his face. Almost two months ago - on 5 July, 2009 - at the Roskilde Festival when Coldplay was the closing act, Chris Martin showed that he is physically unable to turn the corners of his mouth downwards. Chris Martin did actually not make as many humorous comments and jokes in Herning as he did at the Roskilde Festival, and that meant that the show in Herning was not quite as charming as the show at the Roskilde Festival.
Special effects On the other hand, in Herning the band played together more energetically and vigorously than at the Roskilde Festival - this applies to drummer Will Champion in particular - but that did not take away the sensitivity of Coldplay's songs which are always full of feelings. In addition to this, compared to the Roskilde Festival, Coldplay used more special effects and had intensified the set design which was magnificent in itself. We already knew about the machines emitting confetti and the intimate stage among the audience, but the gigantic big screen which was almost as wide as a football ground made you open up your eyes wide. Unfortunately the ears were not spoiled in the same way during the entire concert, because in the last part of the concert the intensity declined because of too many changes of scenery. It seemed too cheap that the two-hour-long set once again included Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean", but a couple of explosive encore numbers made it difficult to be really cross with the cheerful Coldplay boys. At the end Chris bowed. And lived happily ever after. pal@eb.dk

GIGANTIC SINGING-ALONG IN HERNING
Review made by Marie Lade
The clouds were black, and the wind was very strong in Herning. But Sunday evening in Herning was full of light, warmth and singing-along, because on Sunday 16 August, 2009 in the evening 37,500 people had a gigantic joyful party together with the British rock band Coldplay near Messecenter Herning. The band had come to Herning in Denmark, the first stop of their European "Viva La Vida tour", where they gave a cool party with singing-along and big, yellow balloons as well as a video show - and fireworks from the large stage the warmth of which reached the rows at the back.
In the back row The experienced rockstars are famous for being able to deliver a magnificent stage show. So they did in Herning, where the air was full of sweat, drizzle and the smell of sausages, urine and draught beer. In the middle of a parade of well-known hits and with a sense of pleasing everyone, the British rock athletes left the stage, sneaking away unnoticed - and suddenly they were standing on a little platform among the audience in the row far back where the foursome delivered an intimate show in a single ray of light in the darkness. A like-able, little gimmick with guitars and harmonica which really was a hit among the partying / joyous audience and culminating with a tribute to the late Michael Jackson.
Blue beam for Jackson From the little platform the band asked the audience to switch on their mobile phones and at the same time turn the blue light towards the sky, so that the entire party beamed a common tribute towards the sky while everyone sang Jackson's megahit "Billie Jean" . After that it was again empty, dark and quiet. And then ... with Coldplay's sense of show they were again standing on the stage in an orgy of colours, light and sound.
- "It was not bad at all". That was the happy verdict of many hoarse concert-goers when the show was over. It was a magnificent evening in Herning. lade@eb.dk
