Review
I took my sister to her first concert last sunday, Coldplay at Wembley - and boy did I pick a good'n.
Seats were crap but hey - I booked them last minute and beggar's can't be choosers. They kicked off with 'Politik' - my fav track from Rush of Blood - really high energy and thumping music - great start boys. I think that would be my first comment about the gig - the energy! A lot of my mates had said that they loved Coldplay but wouldn't go to see them live - but I am here to correct anyone who thinks that way - they were f**king fantastic.
Rush of Blood is more upbeat than Parachutes and the more rock and roll tracks with crashing guitars and jumping about the stage were mixed in with the ballads to great effect.
Chris - well what can I say - if I wasn't in love with him before I am now. His voice was incredible live - better than the CD by far - I had goosebumps during the ballads, which Chris quite rightly pointed out they sing better than Celine Dion!
Then of course, Yellow, the crowd erupted - the atmosphere was fantastic - the boys loved it - and despite my slight irritation at the use of predictably "yellow" lighting - I have to say I joined in. Chris turned the mic onto the audience and we sang our little hearts out to be rewarded with "this isn't a Robbie Williams concert you know!!!" - yup - we got the point Chris.
Then on to my other favourite from Rush of Blood - the beautiful and soulful 'The Scientist'. Again a fantastic song performed outstandingly.
The most memorable moment for me though was 'Everything's not lost', but for that I think you just had to be there. By the end and the encore of In My Place the crowd were all on their feet and cloud nine - a fantastic night - I felt feeling not as my friends put it "ready to slit my wrists" but pumped, returning home to listen to both CDs all over again with a new respect for Coldplay and their invigorating live performance.
It does exactly what it says on the tin!
