Reviews

Before entering GM Place, there was a security check. In the past, they would rip my ticket off, but now they scan the barcode instead. A person by the door gave me a card. It's something to do with farming in poor countries & politiks. T-shirts of Coldplay and The Music were on sale for $30 CAD. I really like the light brown one with the Parachutes' Globe on it. The show started right on time at 7:30. Eisley, a new young band who released their first album just three days ago performed. They didn't have any memorable songs. All I remember were a few oohs and ahhs in their songs.

There was a 20 minute break for The Music to set up. It's weird I took their CD out from the library just because of their interesting cover art about two weeks ago. I never take out CDs that I don't know the artist and I didn't even know at the time that they were the special guests. I don't like The Music's music because it's really loud, but it's way better than Eisley. The singer could really dance! He made a few dance moves. There was a 30 minute break before Coldplay started at 9:30. In the intermissions, there was a screen showing the farming and with Politik playing in the background. I thought I was actually missing the show when I was going back to my seat!

As usual, Coldplay started with Politik. During The Scientist, people lighted their lighters and some couples were holding each other. By the third or fourth song, five screens lit up behind Coldplay - one wide one above, and four screens below showing each of the band members. Special effects were outstanding in Daylight, where lights converged to look like a sun during the chorus, Yellow, where there was a moving leopard skin in the background, and Clocks, where lots of smoke was put in the atmosphere and a green light shined above the whole stadium which really made it look like a green sky.

Chris Martin mentioned that the last time he came to Vancouver there wasn't many people attending the concert and two years later, today, there's so many more. He also said there wasn't much hassle in security checks when arriving in Vancouver. Chris coughed during Amsterdam and stopped playing piano. He then said “If I did that on American Idol, I'd be done!” In Everything's Not Lost, he got the audience to sing at the end. The biggest highlights were God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, Daylight, The Scientist, Yellow, and In My Place.

I was hoping they would play Green Eyes and/or Warning Sign, my personal favorite from “A Rush”, but once I heard them play A Rush of Blood to the Head and Amsterdam, I knew they wouldn't be in the set. It would be nice if they played Ladder to the Sun. I was also disappointed that they didn't play Shiver nor Trouble, a core part of Parachutes. What really pissed me off was a guy smoking two rows in front of me. A bit later, a guy right next to me also started smoking. About 20 minutes later, the guy two rows in front got caught by the host, who shined his flashlight at him. When Eisley was up, the crowd capacity was about 50%. When Coldplay was performing, the capacity was over 90%.

About 10 minutes after the show, Chris came out to greet fans and sign autographs for about 5 minutes. I came back about half-an-hour later and Chris was signing autographs again. He signed quite a lot before leaving. Will Champion was also there, but he was really awesome, because he kept signing autographs until there were no more left to sign! I just came out to see Coldplay close-up because my seat was very far away from the stage, but since Will was with the fans for quite some time, I got my ticket signed easily without having a huge crowd around him. Jon Buckland was out for a bit too.

The Set List:

1. Politik 2. God Put a Smile Upon Your Face 3. Spies 4. Daylight 5. The Scientist 6. One I Love 7. A Rush of Blood to the Head 8. Don't Panic 9. Everything's Not Lost 10. Moses 11. Yellow 12. Amsterdam
