Reviews

That. Was. AWESOME! By far the best concert I have ever been to. Coldplay went OFF. And the crowd loved every second of it.

Chris Martin was a great crowd pleaser, with his energetic antics including playing peek-a-boo with the crowd from behind a speaker stack, leaping towards the crowd from one level of the stage to the other as well as his brilliant piano playing through well known songs such as Clocks.

He ensured the entire crowd was part of the concert, moving from one side of the stage to the other throughout the night, and even racing to the back of the arena towards the end of the concert to touch hands with some lucky fans who may have felt distanced from the band during the concert.

During the song 'Yellow', a dozen big yellow balloons filled with golden confetti were thrown down to the crowd on the arena's floor and bounced around by fans while the band continued to play the remainder of the song. By the end of the song, fans had started popping the balloons and only 1 remained. Chris Martain held the last note 'you do' moving back and forth from the mic. He then said "we can't finish the song until that balloon is popped". This prompted the immediate popping of the balloon which spun towards the roof spraying its confetti all over the crowd. It was a 'golden' moment.

Coldplay's tradition, known to fans who have been to past concerts, of taking photos of the crowd with disposable cameras and then throwing them to a fan was continued at tonight's concert. All four members took random photos of fans, then tossing them as a memento to a very lucky few.

Their setlist (see below) was nothing short of amazing. It was good to see them play some of their old songs, which fans sung along to, as well as songs off their newest album X&Y, which is the title of their tour. Chris stopped singing at some points, letting the stadium be filled with the voices of 12,000 fans singing their songs. An unbelievable feeling. Jonny even had a few lines to sing, something Chris reminded us all is not something he usually does. The crowd loved it, and gave him a huge cheer. But it was Jonny's guitar work that really got the crowd going. There is good reason this guy is known as one of the best guitarists in the world. Guy was fantastic on bass, even producing a smile to the fans at stages of the concert. And Will Champion was awesome on drums, this guy has amazing skills and budding drummers should look to for inspiration on how to play well.

Acknowledgements must be made to the light and sound crew, who did an amazing job. Three 'lucky' spotlight operators climbed rope ladders at the front of the stage, much to the awe of the crowd, and operated spotlights from right above the stage. What some fans would do for seats like that! The light show, ranging from lasers to coloured light shining through the smoke to strobes to a single spotlight were extremely well choreographed with precision timing, adding to the effect of the concert. Well done to the whole team.

Overall, it was an amazing night. Fans, some of whom had been waiting since 2.30pm for that elusive front row space, loved every moment of their 90 minute set. Youth Group had a hard act to support, but did it well with a few of their old songs as well as their new single 'Catching And Killing'. And they also played their crowd favourite, 'Forever Young', which the crowd sung along to.

If you don't have tickets for their other shows, go buys some. If you already have tickets, if the show you're going to is anything like tonights, you're not going to be disappointed. If you were there tonight/last night....HOW GOOD WAS IT!!!!!

Setlist (not in order or confirmed); Square One, What If, White Shadows, Fix You, Talk, Speed Of Sound, Swallowed In The Sea, Kingdom Come.

Politik, In My Place, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, The Scientist, Clocks.

Don't Panic and Yellow.

I went to the Concert on 24th June, simply fantastic, and I decided to write a review for you guys!

Ok, so me and my dad (Or my dad and I), arrived at the centre at around 6:30, even though the concert didn't start till 7:45, but the place was already getting crowded. We went and bought myself a shirt and grabbed some hot chips for a quick snack, and then went to find our seats.

We got there, and my god, we had such good seats! Anyway, After about an hour of waiting, the Youth Group came on. They were very good! And then they wenty off and they set up for Coldplay. Another hour of waiting.

A lot of people were getting a lil impatient (Me for one),and they kept on having long breaks between the music so we would go "OH YAY! THEY ARE ON NOW... oh wait.. no..." etc.

But finally, it all went dark, people started to cheer and the chords of Square one started to play and the rest went so fast!

Chris kept us entertained throughout the night with comments, and jonny? Woah, he just rocked! And, can we not forget about Will and Guy? The four were just unforgettable.

I beleive someone has posted the setlist for the night on the forums, and it was such a good setlist! Suprise for me when they played trouble. ;)

Gotta say: 10/10!

[Thanks Laura]

Hey guys just thought id update the setlist for the 2nd night of coldplay! instead of Swallowed in the Sea. they actually played, get this

TROUBLE! the audience went off

MAN i was right down the front! on the Barrier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and like 2 people of centre, best place to be in the house! like 1 metre away from coldplay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUT THE BEST NEWS!!!!!!!!!! i got a GUITAR PICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was so lucky!!!!!!!!!! its already up on my cabinet with my coldplay program i will cerish it. the guy i just met next to me got the camera theat coldplay alyways throw to the audience (they take a few photos of the crowd and then throw them out to the audience) so we swapped emails and he said he’ll email some copies of them!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!

i definately believe the 2nd night was better, but maybe im being bias as i wasnt up the front on the first night. but i just thought that it felt like they were going off cos it was ther last night in brisbane.

they have a best chemistry in friendship as a group, its so nice to see. hugs on stage and having a guitar off lol. they are such a nice band to watch play. Man im still coming down from that high!

another funny part was when chris was waiting for the last yellow ballon to pop! lol he’s like

“And all the things you……just waiting for the ballon to pop………………….do”

THIS HAS TO BE THE BEST WEEKEND OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is coming from someone who a) has only started getting into Coldplay after seeing the Speed of Sound vid a few months ago and b) happens to think that Parachutes and Yellow in particular are pretty crap, so hopefully it's a bit more of an objective review.....

Brisbane Friday 23 - sat in the rhs of the entertainment centre, good seat, great view and all that. Pros - great set, sound, and light show. Cons - the band seemed to be going thru' the motions (almost identical set from the Jan 06 Seattle shows) and most of the crowd around seemed to be there just for the sake of seeing the band and weren't all that enthusiatic. A lot of folded arms and sms's being sent to friends during the show, jeez.... Overall rating: a disappointing 7/10, made up of 8/10 for band effort/lighting/set and 6/10 audience response.

Brisbane Saturday 24 - tracked down tickets thru' ebay for the mosh-pit. What a huge difference. Close to the stage and a whole different perspective. Ok, the set was pretty much the same but you could see that the band - especially Chris - was really cranking things up, so the crowd was far more responsive, so the band then gave even more - a case of one feeding off the other's enthusiasm. Chris strutted around, head-banged the keyboards and rocked on his seat, Jonny belted out some great riffs, Will beat the hell out of drums and Guy kicked out the bass lines. Pros - haunting versions of The Scientist and Fix You, full-on performances of the big tracks like Speed of Sound, Talk and Clocks, and great audience response. Cons - no real variation in the set.

Ok, big statement coming now - straight up, I reckon Saturday night's show was the best gig I've EVER been to with the overall highlight being Fix You - what a way to end the show and it amost bordered on the emotional. Fantastic stuff. But then again, if you're watching the show from a comfy seat or way from the back then you'll maybe miss what it's all about. Get yourselves into the Coldplay mosh-pit and you'll have the time or your life!

Firstly the concert was fantastic, and everything which I have read in reviews is totally correct, however. I purchased tickets in the general admission standing area. When i arrived at the concert I discovered that standing area was behind another standing area, people in seats had a better view.

Secondly i thought this concert was the X& Y Concert and expected Cold Play to play most of the songs of that album, especially the newest released hit, The Hardest Part. Instead we got a few of the new, and most of the past hits that went for just over an hour. Effectively costing me $2.00 a minute.

I would have to say that I am a Coldplay fan (purchased the last 2 albums legally) but i really think that the band catered for those who really didn't know the music, and just the hits.
