As I sit here in my newly pur-CHASED coldplay t-shirt, observing the great band members in poster form, I am still getting over the adrenaline rush of being treated to teh concert of a lifetime. In fact, the concert was so good, it got me pregnant with a Blog, and now the water has broken, so here comes teh baby.
Tuesday, 27th June, 2006. Sydney Entertainment Centre Gate E. Door 12. Section 31. Row H. Seats 4 & 5 9:15pm
Let me write you, there is nothing in this musical world, quite like going to the city with one of your best mates, to a packed venue in an atmosphere all on its own, and going crazy for a band who LOFFS to return the favour. Ladies and gentlemen: COLDPLAY.
First of all, I will get my beefs out of the way. I would have like to have seen “Shiver”, “Trouble” and “See you soon”, and would’ve like to have seen maybe another half hour of concerto, (and of course closer seats - but this isnt much of a complaint as will be explained later). Now that that small bit of housekeeping is out of the way, on with the blog.
Ok so i absolutely have to give snaps for Youth Group who did a fantastic supporting act. They played a great set, leaving their hit single “forever young” til towards the end, and didnt hog the stage like some SA’s tend to do. A good quality showcase of local talent.
Next THE show of shows. Here’s the run down of highlights.
the songs: each and every one just generated this energy that made j00r heart race and all you wanted to do was jump out of your seat, scream out the lyrics and jump up and down (and to the knees……sorry agadoo)
Visual bonanza: coldplay’s music (esp live) has never needed additives to get the crowd going, so when you have this spectacular lights and laser show with vibrant and electrifying sightscreens jumping out at you, you can only imagine how much more life is put into the atmosphere. absolutely fantastic.
The bandmembers: just four mates who are passionate about their music, having a laugh and a great time, coming out with cameras taking pictures of the audience, living for your fans without selling out. You are how rockstars should be.
Socceroos tribute: Chris has been paying tribute to the socceroos in some of the shows, and tonight’s show saw chris singing how there “shouldntve been a penalty in the first place” during “God put a smile upon your face”, and when the band left, they returned for their encore fitted in socceroos jerseys.
Johnny Cash Tribute: they wrote “Til kingdom come” in memory of the late johnny cash, which features as a bonus track on their X&Y album, and they performed it tonight, along with the johnny cash song, “ring of fire”. the guys came up to the front of stage, chris and jon on guitars, will on piano, guy on harmonica, such a great little set.
Chris’ special dedication: chris dedicated the performance of “til kingdom come” to a 9 year old boy of bronte who: “when jonny and i were walking on the beach, he kindly informed us that our music is shit……….. he was a cheeky little f**ker, so i kindly informed him that his balls havent dropped and he looks like a tosser……. then the police kindly informed me to leave the country very soon…………………..for the second time”
Chris connecting with the audience: now as i mentioned earlier, it wouldve been great if i couldve gotten better seats, but the show was so good that no matter where you were u felt like you were right in front of the stage, esp when chris leapt off the stage, bolted towards the back, came to about 10-15m from us and finished off “In my place” blending in with the fans, there is no better way to make a 12500 capacity building more intimate.
So they were the main highlights of the night. Forget paying $150 for a Robbie concert, Coldplay could easily get away $200 tickets and you’d still feel like you got a bargain for the show they put on. But for $85 tickets (like mine) or $120 for the best seats in the house its money well spent on a night that is undoubtably priceless.
You’ve not lived until you’ve seen coldplay live.

I was there... Gold Floor tix!!! I was right in front of Jonny but Chris was sometimes in front of us... he was rolling around on the floor a metre away!!!
This was UNbelievable. I started crying in Fix You with a mixture of happiness that I was finally there, and sadness that I was leaving. You can't udnerstand how much this band means to me, and every day I love them more. This was THE BEST!!!!
I think the setlist was the same as the other shows. I loved how you could tell that Chris + Jonny were such good friends. Chris pulled him down on the floor and it was quite funny. They mentioned a lot about our loss to Italy- DAMN RIGHT IT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A PENALTY IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! lol Chris changed the lyrics to songs etc etc, and in the end they came on in Soccereoos jerseys, and some lucky person kept Chris's after he threw it into the crowd.
He ran ALL the way around the Entertainment Centre-right up the back too!
MAGICAL NIGHT!!
