Reviews
Wow! I don't think there is much else that can be said, but it was a terrific night. I had gotten tickets to the pit which is right in front of the stage before the first chairs. Coldplay's website has a free membership, which enables you to buy tickets before they go on sale. One I first tried, I wasn't getting anything very good, but I kept trying and the pit tickets came up. I've never been as close to the stage in Germain Amphitheater before. Last time I saw Coldplay, we were sad because we would never be as close to them again. Well, last night we were closer!
The band played a set very heavy from their 2nd and 3rd albums. In fact I can only remember one song from "Parachutes" being played, and that was "Yellow"; that meant unfortunately no "everything's not lost" and no "trouble". But from the wealth of material they had, you hardly noticed. They opened the show with "Square One" only to be followed by "Politik", and then "Yellow" complete with huge yellow balloon balls filled with confetti which showered everywhere when popped. The new songs lend themselves very well to a live setting. Several of the more upbeat tracks like "Square One", "Talk", and "white Shadows" allowed the band to make big sounds while Chris Martin was not confined to a piano or guitar and able to roam the stage, which on previous tours he was only able to do on "In my place" and "yellow".
One of the highlights of the show was the 3 song acoustic set in which they came up to the front and center stage. They were literally then about 5 feet from us. They played "Til Kingdom Come" (the hidden track on "X&Y" and one they wrote for Johnny Cash) and followed it with Johnny Cash's "ring of fire" and their own "Green Eyes". It was so sweet to just have it all stripped down. Drummer Wil Champion played piano on all the tracks, and bassist Guy Berryman played harmonica on the first 2 acoustic songs, and then took Chris' acoustic for the third. Guitarist Johnny Buckland remained on electric the entire time.
As I was watching them, two things became apparent. One, they really are just normal guys who don't take themselves too seriously. Two, they are becoming something huge. It certainly looked like Germain was sold out. It was crazy to turn around and look at the entire stadium and see what they saw. I said this last time, but I doubt we'll see them so close again.
They closed out the set with "Clocks" and "White Shadows", only to return a few minutes later for the encore consisting of "Swallowed by the sea", "In my place", and the AMAZING "fix you". And yes, my eyes definitely watered on "fix you", seeing the four of them singing in 4 part harmony really captured what it means to be in a band.
It was a spectacular show, one that I will not forget. I definitely look forward to what the future holds for this amazing band. Setlist:

The quality of the performance was nearly flawless as is every show that Coldplay puts on. So I will spare you most of the details on the bands' playing and Chris' vocals because they were absolutely brilliant. The ideal key to the show that made it stand out from the rest of the tour so far was the change in the setlist. Of course you wish that you could see them play all of the songs from the previous shows and then some, but some sacrafices were made for the performance last night.
The crucial changes in the setlist was the introduction of "Amsterdam" and "Green Eyes" to the show. The performance of "Amsterdam" was extremely beautiful and reminiscant of the live performance on the "Coldplay Live 2003" DVD, and Green Eyes was performed in a 3 song acoustic set also consisting of "Till Kingdom Come", "Ring of Fire". With these two songs came sacrafice from my own personal P.O.V. The didn't play their random additions to the tour such as "Dont Panic", "Everything's Not Lost", or "The Hardest Part". This in turn just left an appreciation for the unique playlist that they constructed for the show at Germain Amphitheater.
All in all Coldplay hit the performance right on the head 99.9% of the time and had very few follies that even had the potential of ruining the concert. Having been known for changing the lyrics to a few songs, Chris mentioned something about stopping the flooding in New Orleans in "Politik", and hinted at the return of Coldplay to Columbus for another concert at the very end of "Fix You".
