Reviews

I was privileged enough to see Coldplay at the Hollywood Bowl on May 31 2003. It was an amazing experience to see Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, and Will Champion play at the Hollywood Bowl because of the outstanding acoustics. This is my review.

The first people to talk to me were Scalpers wanting my ticket. They stopped me but all I could do is give them a dirty look because there was no way in hell I was going to give them my ticket. I walked up the pathway to the gates and entered the arena and I couldn’t believe that I was going to see Coldplay in a matter of hours.

I walked into the concert and was greeted by a man at the Make Trade Fair booth and I signed a post card to join and made a ten dollar donation to get a free t-shirt, I also got the tour book (and I recommend it. it has great pictures).

When I found my seat and sat down at 7:00p.m. I just in time for Eisly. They were better than I anticipated but they really didn’t move so it was very easy to wonder off, but I don’t blame them for it, it was there first tour. They went of and at about 8:00 p.m. Ron Sexmith went on and he was terrible. The crowd was unenthusiastic and most were not even in their seat. At about 8:45 p.m. he was gone and the Kroq DJ Striker (local radio DJ) came out and said Coldplay would be out on stage and a roar came over the stadium.

I checked my cell phone and it was 9:00 p.m. and the lights came down and the stage lit up but it was just a tease.

Then finally at 9:05pm the four came out and performed Politik and it was beautiful. The played God Put a Smile Upon my face and Rush of Blood to the Head and I was singing every word.I am not going to lie I like the song Daylight but its not my favorite song but when I heard it live I thought it was one of the greatest songs I have ever heard.

Finally Chris Martin spoke to the audience and told us how it was the best moment of their lives. Then Chris Cautioned us that if we were having a bad day that the song he was going to play next was going to make it worse and it was Trouble, but I was as happy as can be. He let the audience sing the end of trouble and everyone sang as Chris sat and played the piano. He complemented our singing and told us that we sang better than “that R.Kelly song with the choir” and sang” I believe I can fly” and let out a laugh.

One thing I have to say is Elvis has his hip gyrations but Chris Martin has his head gyrations, He was swinging his head everywhere like the music was in him and it was trying to get out.

They played one song called One I Love which I have never heard in entirety but it was absolutely beautiful. I saw Chris look to one side of the stage and it was no other than Gwyenth Paltrow his fiancée but I didn’t care I just kept on listening.

After that the played Don’t Panic and you could tell it was a crowd favorite because everyone knew the words and it was great.

They played one of my all time favorite songs by the called Moses, which I have heard before on www.coldplay.org but they played it with more instruments and it was done beautifully. There was even a treat at the end I was surprised to see Jonny pick up a harmonica it added another fantastic element to the song.

After that they played Everything’s Not Lost Chris Martin even added a little of Justin Timberlake’s song “I wanna rock your body”.

Next they played Poor Me, another amazing song and at the instrumental part he said the lyrics “shaved your head and regret it, but it will grow all back” mourning over his newly shaven head.

Then Chris asked everyone to stand up and everyone did as he played Yellow everyone danced and sang at the top of there lungs as Chris jumped all around and even fell on purpose and he danced like a little boy. The played Scientist, which was truly heart felt and sounded great.

Last Chris sang and played his rendition of It’s a Wonderful World. They dedicated that song to Frank and Jane because the were getting married the next day. Chris said good-bye and they all ran off stage.

The Whole arena chanted there name and about 5 minuets later they came back out and started to do another song as everyone screamed out of happiness. First they played In My place and was great and everyone sang along and loved it. Then my all time favorite song of the show was Clocks. And for about two minutes I was in euphoria as they played Clocks, and I cried because it was so beautiful. Through out the show they had a spectacular light show during every song but it was set perfectly to clocks and it was amazing I never knew humans could make such beautiful sounds.

They all came to the front of the stage and bowed and left. For about ten minutes the crowd chanted there name and but they were not coming out and it was done. Me and my friend walked out talking about how amazing it was and people were drunk everywhere and even a man almost threw up on me.

It was scary walking in the streets of Los Angeles there were crazy people everywhere and I was very scared but I will never forget how amazing my experience was.
