Reviews
Pretty fucking good is nowhere near enough to describe the concert last night. Fiona Apple came on at about 8:30 PM, was so-so. “Criminal” was excellent, though.
Coldplay came on at 10 PM, with “Square One.” I’ve never really liked that song, but live = PHWOAR.
“Politik” was after that, I thought the vibrations from the speakers would shatter my ribs. So amazing.
After that, the songs began to run in blurs. I’m not even 100% sure of exactly what they played for us, but whatever it was, it was absolutely brilliant. My hands were sore from clapping, my throat was sore from screaming and singing, my head was sore from the noise, my eyes were sore from the lights, my feet were sore from standing up.
We had a-fucking-mazing seats. That weren’t even ours in the first place! :XD:
What happened was that the seats that my mom had gotten (yes, mom is a huge Coldplay fan) were waaaaay up twoards the back of a balcony facing perpendicular to the stage, near the back corner of the arena. And it just so happened that before Fiona Apple went on and she was up getting some water that she walked by her friend Fran, who had three seats on the floor- her boss’s son was the bassist for Fiona Apple, so she was sitting with her boss and his girlfriend, not even 20 rows away from the stage, on the floor. And they were going to leave right after Fiona Apple.
So we got their seats!!! :O My mom, Brandon, and I. We’re such lucky bastards.
There were people smoking pot here and there, though. And this guy almost spilled a beer on me. But I could have cared less right then.
Chris was talking to the crowd throughout the whole show. It was great. In the middle of “Politik” just yelled in this funny, cackling voice, “LIVIN’ IN LAS VEGAS! RAAAAAGH!!!!” and then a spoken, “Thanks for having us!”
We got home past midnight, and I made it a responsibility (for lack of a better word) of mine to write down all the fun antics of that night.
So, in no particular order, fun things:
Chris got up on the right platform and started talking. Something like this: “Now, this is a song about when you’re going to go onstage in five minutes, and you’ve just met The Killers, a band you love and admire, and you realize that you look like Michael Bolton circa 1976… so, do you trust the hairdresser, or do you grow it out and look like Michael Bolton?” And then they played “Don’t Panic” (was it that? See, it’s all fuzzy and blurry to me!). In the middle of it, Chris started singing, “I’ve got soul, but I’m not a soldier….” That was great. And then, he changed up the lyrics at the very end and sang, “The hairdresser makes you look like look like Michael Bolton.” :lmao:
Chris kept talking about how playing in Vegas was great- “You know, we really appreciate all of you coming here to see us tonight. We’ve got some tough competition here, with Chippendales and strippers and lots of other sexy shit… That’s what makes playing here so much more amazing, after all those little, boring places in England, this is 10,000 times better. So thanks for spending your money on those extremely expensive tickets just to come see us!” (the show sold out on the first day) And then he said, “This song is called ‘God Would Never Come to This Place,’” and they proceeded to play “God Put a Smile Upon Your Face.” Which was amazing. Another song that I’ve never really liked that much that was sextastic live.
I almost cried during “The Scientist.” What with the audience singing along so loud and everything, it was amazing. But I was too excited to cry.
Chris ripped a big hole in the left armpit of his shirt, I think it was when he dragged Jon onto the ground, was it during “Yellow”? I can’t remember. But he draped himself over Jon for a whole verse of some song (see? I’m too fucking jaded to remember!), singing, “Oh nooo, dont’ go play the solooo!”
Lights = amazing. Especially the big light in the middle of the floor.
Not sure what they typical Twisted Logic Tour setlist is, but I have a feeling we got some special songs. Early on in the gig they played some song I’d never heard before. But a few other people around us were singing along to it. So… probably a B-side, I’m guessing. I’ve not actually heard any Coldplay B-sides. But yeah. Sexy.
And not sure if they’d done this at many other shows during this tour, but we got “Kingdom Come” and whatnot! It was very nice. They were all setting up at the front of the stage, with Will on keys and Guy with the harmonica, and Chris started talking about Johnny Cash. Went something like this:
“Now, a long time ago- well, really not that long ago- okay, two years ago- we were sitting around talking about Johnny Cash. We really admire him. He’s just… so… agh, I can’t even put it into words, so I’ll put it into a dance move! *raises arms up, sticks out leg, gives a hop* So we decided to write a song for him. Everything had been done and recorded, except for his vocals. And as fate would have it, like a fucking bastard he died! So we were left with this song, without Johnny Cash. And we’re going to play it for you now. This is a song for him.” So they played “Kingdom Come” before going right into “Ring of Fire” by Cash himself.
PRETTY FUCKING GOOD.
At one point, someone tossed their camera up onstage, Chris took photos of the crowd with it. And during “Talk” someone handed him their cellphone with someone on the other end. So he’s screaming the song to the person while crawling around. Whoever was on the other end… ahaha.
Everything was amazing, actually. Perfect. The thing you want to put on a tour DVD… hmm. And they were filming it, too. So I’ve got my fingers crossed for that. :XD:
Chris led one of those big “Ohhh oh oh oh” arena chants for the whole half of “Trouble,” I think it was. Oh jeez. I’m so fucking dazed and blurry.
Near the end of the main set, Chris yelled, “THIS HAS DEFINITELY BEEN THE BEST SO FAR!!!!” So they went offstage, and the crowd was just cheering and cheering and only got louder. We got a huge mass-stadium stomp going on. All you could hear for a good few minutes afterwards was screaming and STOMP. STOMP. STOMP. STOMP.
Came back on for the encore. First was “Swallowed in the Sea.” Brilliant.
Then there was “In My Place.” Chris ran out into the audience, HE WAS SO CLOSE TO US. Le gasp. People just made a little crowd around him, he was standing on someone’s chair (why they had chairs on the floor, I don’t know, everyone was standing the whole time).
Ran back onstage, and shouted, “This is our last song! Thanks for having us, we really appreciate you coming out here, what with Celine Dion and Chippendales and .” And they played “Fix You.” I was doing the piano fingerings in the air. It was one of those moments that made me shiver, I felt like I was playing the song myself, it just all fit. Twirling of the light, fun fun fun.
And when everyone was singing along at the very end, you knew it was over. But it was one of those weird sensations, to hear these thousands of people, who all know the song, many of which are probably not good singers, and yet all together it sounded perfect.
Coldplay all stood up together, took two bows, left the stage. Will threw his sticks into the crowd, a girl who caught one of them was clutching it and sobbing as we all walked out.
To sum it all up:
Wow.
This was the first concert I’ve ever been to. I’ve got really high standards for shows, now.

Just got home from the vegas show… and in a word…it was AMAZING. i have to be up in 5 hours but here is a quick review:
Memorable moments:
- chris talking about how they had met the killers 10 minutes before they came out on stage. Also adding in “i got soul but im not a soldier” at the end of “god put a smile upon your face.”
- chris saying we were the best show by far after “talk”
- chris talking about whether or not he should cut his hair and trust a hair stylist to do it, before starting “don’t panic”
- the end of “clocks” enough said.
- finally getting to hear “x&y and “trouble” live…so amazing.
- ” okay, you guys sing pretty fucking good” during speed of sound [ i think]
- the crowd singing along at the end of “fix you”… it was just beautiful
They get more and more incredible each time i see them and this was hands down the best coldplay concert I have attended. I definitely cannot wait to see them again

This was my second Coldplay show on the Twisted Logic tour, the last was in Phoenix at Cricket Pavilion in August. We had seats at the very back before the lawn then. This time, I go 3 tickets in the presale, and we were about 20 rows from the stage! It was truly awesome.
We got to the arena shortly after Fiona Apple had started. She was better than I was hoping for and her live set was enjoyable. She's a great opener...but I'm not sure if I'd pay to see her as the main act. Her set flew by, and after a 30-minute set up (much shorter than the hour long wait in August), the four mates of Coldplay walked on stage to a large countdown timer on the screen behind them (one of my favorite parts of the show).
Martin's voice seemed much much stronger at this show than at the August showing. While much of the set list was similar to Phoenix, there were some new additions to this half of the tour. X & Y was very ethereal and How You See the World added great color. They moved Don't Panic to the electric section and added Trouble! to the acoustic set (which was super with Will playing piano!). Aside from that, it was the same show (which I'd pay to see again and again). I was sad that they cut Low, Everything's Not Lost and A Rush of Blood to the Head (which I think was a special treat at the Aug show).
Overall, the show just seemed more streamlined and smoother. It seemed like it was 10 minutes long, but it was the same hour and a half. Some funny points: Chris renaming "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" to "God would never come to this place." They also went into the "I've got Soul but I'm not a Soldier" chorus from the Killers during GPASUYF.
During yellow, when the balloons fell, my friends and I got to pop two of the big yellow orbs, sending confetti showering on us. When we popped the first one, it took me a couple of seconds to realize that I was holding the popped balloon IN MY HAND!!! I shoved it into my jean pocket. I will be framing this...!!!
The last comment, is that this crowd was a true group of CP fans. I swear that it seemed like every person new every songs and all the lyrics, and was singing them. It was awesome to be signing along with Chris and 19,000 other people.
I really can't put into words how completely awesome this show was...so...I'll do what Chris did when failing to find words to describe Johnny Cash..."I'll just do a dance." *Hops on one foot with arms out...* ;-)
I still think my favorite parts are Square One to open the show, the fast escalating version of Clocks, the beating lights contrasted with the piano spotlight for Politik...ok...I'm just going to name the entire show...I loved it all.
