Quotes

Chris Martin on "God Put A Smile Upon Your Face": "That came out of playing live and wanting to have something with a bit more bounce. We were really getting into things like P.J. Harve and Muse - things with a bit more energy." [2]

Trivia

  • When Coldplay performed this song in Sydney on the 27th of June 2006 (The day the Socceroos lost to Italy in the World Cup), they changed the second line to "It shouldn't have been a penalty in the first place" and in a show of support to the crowd and the Socceroos were to proclaim "We never liked Spaghetti much anyway!"
  • Chris Martin told the Swedish audience during their concert in the Globe Arena in Stockholm during their X&Y tour, that he wrote the song in 2001 in Stockholm City.

Lyrics

Where do we go, nobody knows
I've got to say I'm on my way down
God give me style and give me grace
God put a smile upon my face

Where do we go to draw the line
I've got to say I wasted all your time
Oh honey honey
Where do I go to fall from grace
God put a smile upon your face yeah

And ah, when you work it out I'm worse than you
Yeah, when you work it out I wanted to
And ah, when you work out where to draw the line
Your guess is as good as mine

Where do we go, nobody knows
Don't ever say you're on your way down when
God gave you style and gave you grace,
And put a smile upon your face oh yeah

And ah, when you work it out I'm worse than you
Yeah, when you work it out I want it to
And ah, when you work out where to draw the line
Your guess is as good as mine.

It's as good as mine, It's as good as mine
It's as good as mine

As good as mine, as good as mine,
As good as mine, as good as mine

Where do we go, nobody knows
Don't ever say you're on your way down when
God gave you style and gave you grace
And put a smile upon your face.
