He mainly plays electric guitar, acoustic guitar, piano and Rhodes piano, but has also played drums and bass guitar (notably during the Kid A and Amnesiac Radiohead sessions). It is supposed that Thom writes the bulk of the lyrics to the songs and comes up with stuff with Jonny, then bring it to the rest of the band.

The Eraser

To prove that Thom didn't need Radiohead to come up with songs, he released a glitch-happy, sample-heavy album called The Eraser. However, he didn't want to leave the band so he didn't let it out that he'd done this until Radiohead already had their tour planned. It was released during a calm in the few busy months that the tour was commencing along. It was leaked however, beforehand.

Family Life

He has one brother, Andy Yorke, of the band Unbelievable Truth. Thom currently lives in central Oxford with his partner, Rachel Owen, a printmaker who holds a doctorate in art history, and their two children, Noah, born in 2001 (to whom the Radiohead album Amnesiac was dedicated) and Agnes, born 2004 (to whom Yorke dedicated The Eraser).

Environmental Issues

Thom is also heavily involved with Friends of the Earth and helped launch their Big Ask campaign. He also played a Big Ask benefit gig at the Koko club in London, England.

His aliases include Dr. Tchock, Tchocky, and The White Chocolate Farm.
